Actually, the church tower hasn't sunk, the water has unfortunately risen where the town center of Alt-Graun once was.
The residents of the village were forcibly expropriated and quickly relocated to build the Reschen reservoir, which was supposed to serve as the upper basin of the power plant in Glurns and secure the region's energy. The old nave and the houses in the town center of Alt-Graun were demolished down to a few foundation walls; only the church tower, which is omnipresent today, was left standing as a "memorial". Probably the most popular photo motif on Lake Reschen, which also includes a small exhibition that tells what it looked like before the construction and damming of Lake Reschen in the high valley between Reschen and St. Valentin.

Saint Anne is the mother of Mary, the mother of God, i.e. the grandmother of Jesus Christ, which is not attested to in the biblical texts. However, it is mentioned in apocryphal writings (that is, writings that are not included in the canon of the Bible), for example in the so-called "Protoevangelium of James". There is no historically reliable information about the life of Anna, but there are numerous stories that have been handed down, which are summarized, for example, in the medieval "Legenda Aurea" by the Dominican monk Jacobus de Voragine. Among other things, she is the patroness of the Annakirche in Düren (NRW), where a piece of her skullcap is kept as a relic.
In the church calendar, the memorial day of Saint Anne - together with her husband Joachim - is on July 26th.

The church can be reached quickly from the parking lot by the lake with a short walk. From there you have a wonderful view of the lake.
