Hostalric is a Spanish municipality and town in the province of Gerona, in Catalonia. Belonging to the La Selva region, it is located to the west of the Tordera river.

Irrigated agriculture, forestry, livestock, chemical, food and paper industry. Hostalric was in antiquity an area of obligatory passage on the north-south route, and the only natural passage between Girona and Barcelona. In some surveys carried out on the hill of the castle, remains from the Iberian period were found. In Roman times, an internal fork in the Via Augusta passed through this place. Remains of this road were found when the San Hilario road was built.

There is a belief among the locals that the name comes from a very famous old hostel in the town. Since at that time Hostalrich was an almost obligatory stop for travelers going to Barcelona from Gerona or vice versa, the hostel made large amounts of money and hence the Catalan ending "ric", which in Spanish means rich.
