The oldest part of the town hall is the Rore tower, the “castle in the city”, which dates back to the 13th century.

The Rore tower - the “castle in the city” - was originally a fiefdom of the Counts of Kyburg. From 1515 onwards, the small castle was continuously converted into a town hall and has since been expanded several times over. It is still the seat of the city administration today. On the corner of Zollrain is the bronze sculpture “Fährmann” (1955) by Alexander Zschokke.
