The reserve covers a significant part of the forest located east of Skuły, approx. 12 km east of Mszczonów.

It was established in 1984 on an area of 316.92 ha, and has a landscape and forest character. It covers most of the Skuły-Wschód forest range, located in the Skuły forest district.

The reserve is an exceptionally valuable natural object in the landscape of Central Poland. Its values are evidenced by: the diversity and richness of deciduous forest communities of a natural character, sites of valuable and interesting species of flora and fauna, an island site of beech beyond the range boundary, a large number of old, monumental trees and landscape values.

There are four types of forest complexes here: subcontinental oak-hornbeam forest, ash-alder riparian forest, elm-ash riparian forest, and currant alder forest. Fragments with old stands have an almost primeval, primeval character. Fertile and moist habitats provide excellent habitats for various plant species, about 400 species have been counted. Protected plants that deserve special attention include: the common ginger, the common twayblade, the wood nestling, the Fuchs orchid, the spotted orchid and the cowslip. The biggest attraction of the reserve is the globeflower.
