Piazza Alicia di Salemi where the ancient Norman castle and the former mother church of the city which collapsed following the 1968 earthquake are preserved. What remains of the mother church was restored by the architect Álvaro Siza, (1992 Pritzker prize) and reconverted instead of aggregation. the city is part of the club of the most beautiful villages in Italy.

Hiking

An earthquake in 1968 destroyed large parts of the old town and brought the church in the center to collapse. As of 1982, extensive repairs were undertaken according to the plans of Alvaro Siza and Roberto Collovà. The central square between Normannenburg and Kirchenruine was redesigned (completed in 1997). However, the church was not rebuilt as originally requested, but preserved as a ruin and memorial to the earthquake. Like a stage, the choir closes the square and gives it its special character. A beautiful place.
