Große Schleuse Meppen

A beautiful lock in Meppen with nice rest stop!

The detour to Emsblick on a side route from Geeste to Meppen was great. This side route saves about 2 km drive on the main road without bike path.

Opening times of the lock:

Monday to Saturday 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Sunday 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

It is always exciting to watch the ships lock.

When the ships and pleasure craft gather in front of the lock, it's interesting to see how people scurry around on the ships and then big and small line up to enter like a duck mom with their children.
Break in the country with a stage on the water, so to speak :-)

The eastern small lock Meppen has a usable length of 100 m and is 12 m wide. The Western Large Lock Meppen is also 12 m wide but 165 m long and was completely renovated in 2005–2007.
