Italian mule track from the Great War with a constant slope and close bends (approximately every 20 metres) which climbs the steep northern slope of Mount Summano, leading to the remains of various military works: machine gun emplacement, remains of a cableway which brought material from the Meda below, cave deposits and shelters, observatories, trenches.

It was part of the long line of maximum resistance, fortified in the autumn of 1917 following the Stafexpedition, as an extreme barrier against a possible invasion of the Po Valley: the line followed the entire ridge that leads from Pasubio to Novegno and continues up to Summano; from here it descended into the valley along the La Rancina coast, crossed the Meda Castle (transformed into a robust stronghold with gunboats) and crossed the Cogollo countryside; finally it went up the Asiago Plateau on a twin fortified ridge, up to Monte Cengio.

In fact, no fighting took place, given that the Austro-Hungarian troops were stopped a few kilometers upstream from the Val d'Astico, in Arsiero.

The itinerary winds starting from near the Rocca di Meda, on the military path serving the crest positions of Costa La Rancina, on the less frequented side of the Summano, up to the aerial fortification of Bocca del Lovo (810 m) which was a machine gun position in a strategic position and which now offers an enviable panorama with a splendid view of the Val D'Astico, the Velo amphitheater, the Cimone di Tonezza and the Cengio.

      Very beautiful and panoramic 🤩
