Koffieschenkerij Genuujerie was opened in 2007 and is located in a former farm, just behind the famous Genuuje chapel (from 1631). And right on the Pieterpad route. The current chapel was built in 1631, but the cult of Mary in Genooy dates back to 1423, when a monastery (Mariendael) was founded on the site. Over the years the chapel has withstood the strains of the Reformation as part of the monastery. After the last nuns donated the chapel to the Sint Martinus parish in 1829, it remained in almost the same condition until the beginning of the 20th century. The chapel was extensively restored in 1917 by the well-known master builder Pierre Cuypers and expanded to include a choir nave, side aisles and a separate cruciform chapel.
