Schachten Meadow at Mittagsplatzl

Magnificently situated Schachten between Bretterschachten/Bodenmais and Grosser Arber. Livestock farming is seasonal on the Schachten. At the vantage point you have a great view of the Great Arbersee.

Friedl Thorward, the "Luis Trenker of the Bavarian Forest", once described the 1,340 m high Mittagsplatzl as the "most beautiful spot in the whole Woid". It is said that anyone who has hiked the Schachtwiese between Bodenmais and Großer Arber is always happy to come back there.What makes the former alpine pasture so special only becomes apparent to the hiker at second glance. If he follows the signpost a few meters east to the cliff edge, a unique view of the Großer Arbersee, the Bohemian Forest and the Großer Falkenstein in the Bavarian Forest National Park is revealed.
