The theater was built between 1910 and 1912 by landowner and namesake Miguel Young and remained his private property until it was purchased by the Intendencia de Río Negro in 1930.
The building was built with staff brought in from Europe, under the direction of the architect Antonio Llambías de Olivar, who gave the work an eclectic style and refined decorations, such as the ledges of the boxes covered in pure gold and the sculptural group on the facade, the inspiration, Music and poetry symbolized.
The Miguel Young Theater was inaugurated on January 4, 1913 in the presence of the poet José Zorrilla de San Martín and from 1934 it was managed by the Municipality. On April 17, 2015, after an investment of more than 30 million pesos, the theater reopened on the occasion of its restoration.
