High above Wolhusen, in a prime location, are still wall remains of the outer castle of Wolhusen. Their story began in the 11th century with the barons of Wolhusen. From the outer and inner castle they dominated the Entlebuch and the Rottal. At the beginning of the 14th century, the entire territory of Franconian sovereignty passed to Austria and thus to Habsburgs. The decay of the castles around 1400 put an abrupt end to this rule.

A nice place with 2 larger barbecue areas. A barbecue area is a little below the castle, there is also a toilet there. Another barbecue area is near the castle. There are several covered picnic areas at the castle. A great place to stay, enjoy the view or watch the castle residents (lizards).
