In 1753, the electoral government of Trier in Ehrenbreitstein issued the first comprehensive road and road building regulations, in which precise specifications were made for the width and design of future country roads. As a result, the expansion of the Koblenz-Montabaur-Limburg (B 49), Altenkirchen-Limburg and what later became the federal highway 8 through the Goldenen Grund began. The neighboring villages had to provide building materials as well as manual and team services, which caused great resentment and resistance in some cases. Hour markers were erected along the routes in 1789, which indicated the approximate travel times to the end points of the routes. In the urban area of Limburg, one of the stones has been preserved on the outskirts of the core town and on the south-eastern edge of the district of Lindenholzhausen.

All stones are in the shape of an obelisk rising above a two-tiered square base. Bronze plaques with the road ordinance were originally embedded in the upper field. On the Lindenholzhausen hour obelisk below an elector's hat are the intertwined monograms CT (= Chur-Trier) and the inscriptions: X hours from Coblenz 1789 - XI hours from Franckfurt 1789.
