    Luther Church (1864) + Luther Fountain - Ludwigshafen a.R. 🚴‍♂️

Luther Church was the oldest Protestant church building in Ludwigshafen. Its 61-meter-high, preserved tower is a defining feature of Ludwigshafen's city skyline. The nave was destroyed in World War II; the preserved tower is now used as a restaurant. After services had been celebrated jointly with the Catholics in a shared church since 1854, the congregation acquired a building site on Maxstraße. Work began in August of that year, and the church was officially consecrated on November 27, 1864. The three-aisled interior, measuring 38.65 meters long and 20.45 meters wide, had seating for 1,000 and standing room for around 600. The church remained a torso for almost twenty years. Funding for further construction was initially lacking. Further work was not carried out until 1872/1873, and the organ loft with the organ was consecrated and completed on June 28, 1874. The second tower was built in 1878 and completed in 1883. In 1887, a second parish was established, and in 1895, it was separated as a separate parish for the northern part of the city. The Apostles' Church was built here between 1892 and 1894. It was not until the Reformation anniversary in 1917 that the church was renamed Luther Church. The nave was destroyed in bombing raids during World War II, but the tower was preserved as a memorial. The area of the former nave was redesigned in the 1990s and supplemented by the Luther Fountain. The tower itself houses a café. Today, the Melanchthon Church, built after the war as Bartning's emergency church in the immediate vicinity, is used for services.🚴‍♂️

    - The Luther Fountain is a memorial by Gernot and Barbara Rumpf from 1992, located on the site of the former Luther Church. The fountain was dedicated on June 26, 1992, after the Ludwigshafen congregation had previously provided for it through its own funds and fundraising. The total cost was 600,000 DM. 200,000 DM was raised through donations. The Protestant Church of the Palatinate and the city of Ludwigshafen each contributed 200,000 DM. The fountain is the only memorial depicting Martin Luther together with his wife, Katharina von Bora. At the same time, the fountain alludes to Luther's conflict with Pope Leo X.🚴‍♂️
