The "Tetzel Column" has repeatedly been confused in literature with the "Wehl Martyr's Cross."

The robust column, constructed from three millstones, three square blocks, and a capstone, most likely served as a warning sign for boatmen at the dangerous stretch of the river.

The approximately three-meter-high sandstone monument has been moved several times, for example, due to railway construction. It originally stood about 150 meters southeast of its current location. The Leipzig Dominican friar Johannes Tetzel, who was born in Pirna around 1465, is said to have preached and granted indulgences here. This interpretation is not certain.
