Mannheim Baroque Palace - Bismarckstaße 🚴‍♂️

Mannheim Palace was built in Mannheim during the reign of Electors Karl Philipp and Karl Theodor in three construction periods between 1720 and 1760 and was the residence of the Electors of the Palatinate from 1720 to 1777.
Constructed in the Baroque style, Mannheim Palace consists of several wings: the east wing, the eastern courtyard, the central building, the western courtyard, the south wing, and the west wing. A palace church and the palace library are also integrated into the building. The elongated facades mostly have three stories, while the four-story pavilions integrated into the building soften the austerity of the rectangular architecture. The main building and the central pavilion are each one story higher. The historic interior, especially on the main floor, was a Gesamtkunstwerk of European stature.
The sprawling palace complex, with its length of almost 450 meters and a total area of six hectares, is one of the largest palaces in Europe. Mannheim Palace is the second-largest Baroque palace complex in Europe after the Palace of Versailles. During construction, care was taken to ensure that it had exactly one more window than Versailles. This was intended, among other things, to represent the important position of the Electors of the Rhine, which they held within the Holy Roman Empire.

Unfortunately you can not go to the castle for a visit, it should be possible from the end of January 2020 again. It is worthwhile to stop by again!
