The bark shed was built in the middle of the 19th century, when bark was an important source of income for the forests. The bark was sold to tanneries, and it is estimated that up to a third of the forest's income at that time came from the production of bark - especially from oak trees. Very few barks are preserved.

When the leaves were as big as mouse ears, a man was sent up the tree with an ax to cut a groove so that he could literally peel the bark off the tree with his feet. The bark was then left to dry. First on the ground and then inside the bark shed. Later, the dried bark was sold to tanneries, which extracted tannic acid from the bark.

By the bark shed there's a parking lot which serves as a great entry to Kongsøre Forest.
