Saint Kilian, known as the Apostle of the Franks, stands on the pillar rising from the market fountain. In his hands he carries a sword and the bishop's crook, on his head he has a miter (bishop's hat). The market fountain, also sometimes referred to as the Kiliansbrunnen, is located on Marktstrasse, between the Old Main Bridge and the town hall. This fountain should not be overlooked when visiting Kitzingen.

The St. Kilians fountain on the market square in Kitzingen dates from the 18th century. St Kilian was a 7th-century Irish itinerant preacher and missionary bishop.
