This new town hall, completed in 2015, replaces the former town hall at the beginning of this walking route. The 49-metre-high building was designed by the Kraaijvanger architectural firm and, like the old town hall, is located on a textile-historical site. This site used to be part of the Stoomspinnerij Twenthe, which was also located directly on the canal at the time. This part of the canal was filled in for a long time when it lost its transport function. The water now flows all the way to the Marktplein, where you can go canoeing and paddleboarding.
