It seems that the town is very old also because it is located along a Roman road which, following the course of the Piavon river, connected Oderzo, through Ceggia, to the opitergine lagoon also known as Eraclea. Fossalta is a branch of the parish church of Chiarano. It seems to have become a parish in the second half of the century. XV or at the beginning of the century. XVI. It is unknown when the church was built and by whom it was consecrated.

It seems that the town of Fossalta Maggiore, a small fraction of the municipality of Chiarano, is very ancient also because it is located along a Roman road which, following the course of the Piavon river, connected Oderzo, via Ceggia, to the Opitergia lagoon also known as Eraclea. Fossalta is a branch of the parish church of Chiarano. It seems to have become a parish in the second half of the century. XV or at the beginning of the century. XVI. The Church of San Marco in Fossalta Maggiore probably dates back to the early 1500s and was entrusted to the Canons Regular of S. Salvatore of Venice. The church, dedicated to St. Mark the Evangelist, has a single nave in neoclassical style. Restored in 1820 and 1858, it has a raised choir in the back and an organ from the same period by Caetano Callido. On the high altar, in addition to a marble tabernacle, there are two statues depicting St. Peter the Apostle and St. Mark the Evangelist.
