According to the type, the building belongs to the Central German short halls and consists of a three-aisled, three-bay nave, a retracted three-sided closing choir of the width of the central aisle and a western tower. In the silhouette of the town, the church is effective in terms of urban development due to the exceptionally high roof of the hall and the tower, which is only slightly higher. The chancel was probably only begun after 1454, the nave in 1485 and completed around 1520. The interior was restored after a fire in 1583-85 without a vault, the tower was renewed in 1588/89 using older parts by Eberhard Schmidt from Sangerhausen.
