Evangelical Parish of Ötisheim with Corres, Schönenberg, and Erlenbach

In 1883, following new plans and a cost estimate by C.F. Leins (36,000 marks), the foundation stone was laid on May 31, and the consecration took place on December 9. The church was named after the Waldensian leader Henri Arnaud.

Waldensian leader Henri Arnaud had a simple wooden church built in the Waldensian colony of Schönenberg, opposite his rectory (now a museum, waldenser.de). Henri Arnaud, who died on September 8, 1721, is said to be buried there.

In 1701 or 1717, Arnaud built a church, where he was eventually buried. Until 1849, the church also served as the Ratsstube (town hall), which was located in the attic. A small prison, known as the Zuchthäusle, existed under the stairs. In 1883, the church was demolished to make way for the present-day Henri Arnaud Church. It was built from red sandstone in the Neo-Romanesque style by the church architect Christian Friedrich von Leins. Arnaud's gravestone is located in the church. To this day, the Henri Arnaud Church is the only Protestant church in Württemberg with a French name.

The Henri Arnaud Church is a Protestant church in the small community Schönenberg. The namesake is a Waldensian, so a descendant of the Protestant religious refugees from Savoy.

On September 8, 2021, his death marks the 300th anniversary of his death.
