The oldest house in Garding from 1572. The town's best-known son, Theodor Mommsen, was born here on November 30, 1817, the first of five children of the pastor Jens Mommsen and his wife Sophie (née Krumbhaar). However, the family moved to Bad Oldesloe/Holstein as early as 1821. Theodor Mommsen never visited his native town again. At Markt 5, Mommsen's impressive biography is presented in a small exhibition in the evangelical parish hall. His birthplace is the neighboring diaconate building, on which a memorial plaque has been attached since 1903.
