Until the end of the 19th century, the Ohmgebirge was still called Ohmberg (also Ohmberge). The Ohmgebirge or Ohmberg got its name from the river Ohne (Germanic "Aumana"), which runs to the south, which means source or river course. The first documented mention "in pago Onfelt" from the 9th century refers to the medieval Ohmfeldgau, in 1217 the name "onvelde" appears again. The plateau is also known as Ohmfeld, from which the place names Kaltohmfeld and Kirchohmfeld were derived. Two mountains in the north-west and north-east of the Ohmgebirge are still called Ohmberg today. (Source: Wikipedia)
