The port is the symbol of the maritime and commercial importance of Giulianova. Its birth dates back to Roman times when Castrum Novum, the ancient residential nucleus of the city, still existed. The flourishing trades are testified by the findings of amphorae able to contain the goods but it was also used during the Second Punic War.

In the sixteenth century. there was a strong decline of the Julian port which was even closed.

Fishing and commercial activities restarted only shortly before 1913 when it was also expanded in size.

Divided into the north and south piers, the Port Authority expanded the northern part, the quay and the square in the 1980s and 1990s. Today it is still a point of reference as far as fishing is concerned because fishing boats are moored there but the tourist activity is also flourishing.

The port has a colorful cycle and pedestrian path.
