Sir William Wallace is one of the most well-recognised figures from Scottish history, he's often referred to by the Scots as a hero. He was a knight during The First War of Scottish Independence and became one of the main leaders who defeated England and freed the country from their rule.

Another statue of a famous and well know Scotsman in the vicinity of Union Terrace gardens. Easy to spot in front of the theatre and impressively large.
