Could be a remnant of the baroque Max Clemens Canal, which was once supposed to connect Münster with the Vecht, but never really went into operation. Its route is still clearly visible. Between "Clemenshafen" and "Maxhafen" you can connect the two cycle railway routes Rheine-Burgsteinfurt and Rheine-Ochtrup via the canal towpath, whereby the latter is more interesting to cycle due to its slightly curved section.

At this point, the Münsterland cycle railway crosses the still existing route of the historic Max Clemens Canal, which was intended to connect Münster to the Dutch canal system with access to the North Sea coast in the Baroque period. Even without the unfinished connection to the lower Steinfurter Aa, the towing service continued until 1846!
