Another lost place on the Oertel site. The roof has now partially collapsed.
The apprentices in the slate mining industry lived here until the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990. The Konsum on the ground floor closed its doors a few years earlier.

Hiking

In 1805, the Ducal government of Saalfeld-Coburg recognized the special value of the slate quarry and acquired all shares. The quarry was thus placed under state control and renamed the "Ducal Slate Quarry of Lehesten." Skilled officials were placed there, who, with their expertise, were able to increase production. However, the local slate miners continued to be the losers, receiving little pay for their hard work. This led to the first unrest among Lehesten's workers in 1807.
