At this location you will find the so-called 'Nieuwe Poort'. There is no 'Genneper Huispoort'. The Nieuwe Poort was originally intended as an entrance/exit in connection with the road between the city and the Genneperhuis, a now destroyed castle at the mouth of the Niers in the Maas of which only the ruins remain.

The 'Nieuwe Poort' was built in 1635. It got its name because it was built later than other gates. When you leave the gate you will arrive at a parking lot today (via a small bridge). One of the first real sights once you enter the city through the gate is the Martinustoren with its cemetery.
