The Herxheim Forest Chapel was formerly called "Candeler Kapell," a well-known forest chapel. The chapel is located at a busy roundabout, so it's noisy due to car and truck noise; it's not a place of peace and quiet. I didn't stay there long, still hearing the tranquility of the Hayna Chapel.

The forest chapel, formerly known as the "Candeler Kapell", was built around 1850 by the families Jakob Gauly and Franz Rippon. However, it was only consecrated 13 years later, in 1863, when it was furnished with an altar by Gottfried Renn.

The well-known church painter and restorer Otto Schultz took over the church painting in 1951, the last renovation took place in 1985/86.

      Furnishing:

Altar with Vespers / Pietà; Painting by Otto Schultz.

Back wall: decorative painting, depiction of the cross with a stylized loincloth; Front of the altar block: the sacrament of the altar as a source of grace.
