The castle complex had a very large outer bailey, of which the fortified walls still bear witness today, and was later converted into an agricultural operation. The main castle was also significantly rebuilt, whereby the Romanesque residential tower (keep) with its high entrance at a height of seven meters retained its shape. The ring moat is also preserved. Today the castle is used for municipal administration and for living.

An elderly woman looked curiously out the window as we explored the castle grounds of Gatersleben. There's even a well here, but it's closed and heavily overgrown. Some of the houses are occupied.
