A striking building in the center of Gatersleben is the St. Stephani Church. This church has a checkered history. The originally Romanesque building was significantly enlarged in 1460. The church tower was rebuilt around 1621, as the previous one had to be demolished due to dilapidation. But already in 1664 this new tower was destroyed as a result of an arson and rebuilt eight years later. The fire also raged in the vicinity of the church and destroyed a large part of the historical documents of the place. In 1884, the chronicles record another destruction of the church tower, this time by lightning. The tower was then rebuilt in its current form.

The St. Stefani Church was originally built in the Romanesque style. Significantly enlarged in the 15th century, the church tower was rebuilt in the 17th century. The latter was destroyed by lightning in the 19th century and then rebuilt in its current form.
