In the Kruibeke-Bazel-Rupelmonde polder, most of the dikes are of medieval origin. They are related to the 12th-13th-century reclamation of this area on the left bank of the Scheldt. The historic dike structure consists of the Scheldt dike, the dikes along the Barbierbeek, the Fasseitdijk and the Verkortingsdijk.
