From the Puna Coast Trailhead hikers can explore the Pu'u Loa Petroglyphs to the east or embark upon a strenuous hike to ʻĀpua Point along the coast. The hike to the petroglyphs is easy and recommended for anyone interested in the history of the park. The hike to ʻĀpua Point is 6.6 miles one way, and leads to a campsite that can be reserved through the National Park Service. This is a rewarding adventure for hikers seeking to experience everything the volcanic coastline has to offer.
