The necropolis is located on the heights of Grenoble. At this location, 250 resistance fighters fought the German assaults in 1944.

The graves of big names in the local resistance are located there, such as Jean Prevost and Eugène Chavant.

Overlooking Grenoble and in front of one of the most impressive panoramas in the region, the national necropolis of Saint-Nizier-du-Moucherotte brings together the remains of soldiers and resistance fighters who died for France during the fighting on the Vercors plateau in June 1944 .

Created in 1947, this necropolis is located on the very site of this confrontation. 98 resistance fighters and two Yugoslav resistance fighters are buried there.

Among them, rests the writer and journalist Jean Prévost (1901-1944) known as "Goderville". Co-author of the "Montagnards plan", he participated at the head of his company in the fighting of June 13 and 15, 1944. He was killed on August 1, 1944 at Pont-Charvet near Sassenage.

This cemetery also hosts the grave of Eugène Chavant known as "Clément", the civil leader of the Vercors and the cenotaph of Lieutenant-Colonel François Huet known as "Hervieux", the last military leader of the Vercors, as requested by the National Association Pioneers and Volunteer Fighters of Vercors.
