"Weed Cone" - 2013 - steel and "Weed Needle" - 2013 - steel by Manuela Trier
Further information: schoenbuch-heckengaeu.de/freizeitplaner/?item=11101228"The steel sculptor Manuela Tirler found her own visual language early on, which she varied and constantly expanded in numerous groups of motifs. Without any fear of the material, Werner Pokorny's former student looks for her subject in nature, of all places. For Tirler, this natural context appears, on the one hand, uninhabited, barren and inhospitable, but on the other hand supported by dramatic beauty. Organic-vegetable forms create a lightness that the sculptor confidently plays off against our knowledge of the heaviness of industrial iron. The viewer associates the steel bushes and branches with naturally grown counterparts, But Tirler respects the peculiarities of the bulky and usually rusting material - she only uses the shine of stainless steel in exceptional cases. But this is precisely how she approaches the processual flourishing within nature. Her picture series are called, for example, "Tumbleweeds", "Weed Needles" or "weed cones" - these last-mentioned rows either grow up like cypresses or stand in the viewer's way like warning pointers - the "needles" can also be understood as locating or navigation needles. Despite their natural presence, the reinforcing bars were rolled and modeled into shape with an excavator and were subsequently welded using less heavy equipment."
