Himmelsdorf: The Lowest Point in Germany
    Lake Hemmelsdorf
The Timmendorfer Strand region is not just about the sea, the beach, and shops; it also offers a number of green highlights.

First and foremost, Lake Hemmelsdorf. Geographically, this is the lowest point in Germany and is worth a trip for cyclists, hikers, and nature lovers. The hiking trail that surrounds the lake is particularly recommended. From there, a detour to the Hermann Löns Observation Tower is a must.

From this 20-meter-high tower, you have a fantastic panoramic view of the five-kilometer-long lake, its reed belt, and the forest, bush, and meadow area. Hemmelsdorf
In the Hemmelsdorf district, there is a small harbor for sailboats and rowing boats at the fish smokehouse. Lake Hemmelsdorf is leased to the Lübeck-based sport fishing club SAV Pliete e. V. [10] The fish species include eel, pike, zander, tench, carp, and trout. The catch of fish is limited.

In 2013, a 0.5 km long riverside path was created in the Hemmelsdorf district to allow direct observation of the riverside vegetation. The footbridge was built entirely from oak wood to blend in with the landscape. The oak posts on which the footbridge is founded were not stripped to maintain their durability. Other posts were prepared in different ways to observe the course of their decay.
