The Timmendorfer Strand region is not just about the sea, the beach, and shops; it also offers a number of green highlights.First and foremost, Lake Hemmelsdorf. Geographically, this is the lowest point in Germany and is worth a trip for cyclists, hikers, and nature lovers. The hiking trail that surrounds the lake is particularly recommended. From there, a detour to the Hermann Löns Observation Tower is a must.From this 20-meter-high tower, you have a fantastic panoramic view of the five-kilometer-long lake, its reed belt, and the forest, bush, and meadow area. On the northern edge of the lake, next to the outflow to the Aalbeek, stands the 14.35 m high wooden observation tower "Hermann-Löns-Blick" (⊙). From its 12.10 m high viewing platform, you can enjoy a good view of the lake.The lake is also a popular ice sailing spot, as in January 2016, with 20 cm of ice.

Hemmelsdorf
In the Hemmelsdorf district, there is a small harbor for sailboats and rowing boats at the fish smokehouse. Lake Hemmelsdorf is leased to the Lübeck-based sport fishing club SAV Pliete e. V. [10] The fish species include eel, pike, zander, tench, carp, and trout. The catch of fish is limited.
