Unfortunately, the "Maria Frieden" abbey is now closed, the sisters living there moved to the Steinfeld monastery in June 2022.

For the Maria Frieden monastery, see for example de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abtei_Maria_Frieden_(Dahlem)

On March 24, 1952, the Mariawald Abbey near Heimbach bought the former sheep farm Dahlemer Binz from the British occupying forces for DM 27,500. This was created in 1935 by the National Social Welfare Organization as a "model sheep farm". After World War II, the site was confiscated by the British occupying power.

With the acquired 70 acres of land, the order had the basis for founding a new - and at that time only - women's monastery of this order in Germany. Shaped by the experiences of two world wars, the monks of Mariawald chose Maria Frieden as the name for the new foundation, since praying for peace has always been and still is the main concern of the nuns of the monastery. Against the background of the current Russia/Ukraine war, this is sadly very topical again.

The monastery is not open to the public.

Even though the monastery residents have now moved to Steinfeld Monastery, the grounds are still well maintained 👍
