Folkert Harmens Kuipers (1843-1904) from Akkrum became a successful businessman in America as Frank Cooper. In 1900 he had the Coopersburg home built in his birthplace. Cooper was a member of the commemoration committee that commissioned the sculptor Johan Schröder in 1903 to make a monument to Eeltje Halbertsma. Schröder also created the mausoleum for Cooper and his wife, which was placed northeast of Coopersburg's main building. The Cooper couple were added in 1907.
