The old bridge had long since become inadequate for the ever-increasing traffic, and so in 1921 the town of Forst decided to build a new 170-meter-long bridge made of tamped concrete. A total of 394 railway wagons were required for equipment, scaffolding, and construction materials, weighing a total of 5,731 tons.
