In 1925, the carver Richard Rother from Kitzingen created a seated, smiling figure holding coins and a purse, the so-called "Batzenärrle", as a symbol of the Karlstadt branch of the private bank Meyer opened in 1922 (today Hauptstraße 35). The bank branch was closed in 1965, and with it the "Batzenärrle", Richard Rother's sculpture, disappeared from the city.
The Karlstadt surgeon and hobby artist Dr. Eventually, Karl Janda created a replacement. In order to avoid any copyright disputes, too great a similarity was avoided, and the (official) name was also changed. Since autumn 1973 there has been a "Güldenmännle" hanging at the Café Mauer, today's "Zur Rose" inn on the market square -- but for many in Karlstadt it is and remains the "Batzenärrle".
