The Bargteheide burial mound, which is a listed monument, dates back to the Bronze Age (approx. 1800-500 BC). During this time, the deceased were placed in tree coffins, surrounded with stone protection and mounded over. This is how this burial mound was created. The beautiful trees are only a few hundred years old. From 1000 BC, cremation became common practice. The ashes were buried in small stone packages, later in urns. During the younger Bronze Age (from approx. 900 BC) and in the Iron Age, burials took place in urn cemeteries or as a "secondary burial" in existing burial mounds. The dead had objects placed in their graves for their journey to the afterlife. The grave was surrounded by a stone circle, which was said to have magical significance. bargteheide.de/Bildung-Freizeit/Sehensw%C3%BCrdigkeiten/H%C3%BCnengrab-aus-der-Bronzezeit.php?object=tx,2971.5559.1&NavID=2971.50&La=1
