The Galgenberg is located in the north of the municipality of Heusden-Zolder between the Lindeman district and the former site of the Zolder coal mine. It is a nature reserve of 26.9 hectares with a tree-rich heathland landscape. It forms a buffer between the industrial area on the former mine site and the residential area. The Galgenberg has been a protected landscape since 1984 because of its natural scientific value because it is part of an old dune landscape with heathland remains. The nature reserve is a recognized nature reserve and is managed by Limburgs Landschap.
