ABOUT THE BLEACHHOUSE WORKSHOPinformationA small, old half-timbered house is located on Steinweg, in the immediate vicinity of the idyllic moated castle of Rheda. Surrounded by old trees, only accessible via a wooden bridge, this old house has its own unique atmosphere. Its former function around 200 to 300 years ago gave the building its name: bleaching house. In 1990, the city of Rheda-Wiedenbrück decided to make this pale cottage available to artists for a so-called »open studio«. The building should be used sensibly again and at the same time visitors should be given the opportunity to look over the shoulders of artists at work. Over time, the artist workshop has developed into a small cultural institution where art courses, art projects of all kinds and art exhibitions take place. In 2005, management was transferred to the art historian Melanie Körkemeier. The workshop Bleichhäuschen is a nationally effective, attractive attraction for artists and the public and is now an integral part of cultural life in Rheda-Wiedenbrück. The Bleichhäuschen workshop is financed by grants from Flora Westfalica GmbH.
