The Boudewijn Canal was dug between 1896 and 1905. It was then called: Canal Brugge-Zeebrugge. In 1953 the canal was renamed the Boudewijn Canal, on the occasion of the visit (in 1951) of King Baudouin. It runs through the entire port area of Bruges-Zeebrugge and connects the Zeebrugge outer port with the Bruges inner port. It also offers Zeebrugge an inland shipping connection via the Bruges ring canal and the Ghent-Bruges canal. Over its total course it is approximately 12 kilometers long and is located entirely within the city limits of Bruges.

The beautiful wide towpath allows many to enjoy the Boudewijn Canal. Know that it can be busy here. Enjoy together, each at their own pace.
