      The Weilersbachtal nature reserve
has a size of around 93 hectares and was designated in 1995.

Areas of the nature reserve are part of the FFH area "Beech forests and meadow valleys of the North Steigerwald" and the European bird sanctuary "Upper Steigerwald".

Another special feature of the nature reserve is the 53-hectare Kleinengelein natural forest reserve in Wustvieler Forst, a former school forest area with an old beech stand, which is one of the highest and oldest beech forests in all of Germany.

The beeches, which are around 200 years old, but in some cases up to 400 years old, are known as the "Giant Beeches of Kleinengelein".

A number of hiking trails lead through the nature reserve, and one worth mentioning is the "Path of Biodiversity" created as an adventure trail by the municipality of Rauhenebrach together with BaySF and the Office for Agriculture, which is a circular trail with a length of around 6 kilometers from Obersteinbach through the nature reserve. To the north of the nature reserve lie the natural forests Knetzberge-Böhlgrund and Wotansborn.

The area consists of meadow communities with tall herbaceous plants, spring areas and natural streams with typical alder-ash alluvial forests.
