The Lehrenbach rises in the Steigerwald Nature Park between the Dachsberg (456 m above sea level) and the Gangolfsberg (469 m above sea level) from the Taufbrunn, which is about one kilometer west of the source of the Stöckigsbach, a tributary of the Main. After the source, the creek flows in a northerly direction and leaves the state forest Hundelshausen, to then cross the Neuhauser forest, where a short time later the hole ditch flows into the water. West of the Löhrenbach is then the Burgstall Schernberg. The stream then leaves the Steigerwald and now runs in the foothills of the Steigerwald. There it crosses some agricultural areas, only to unite after about 3.5 km with the Eschenauer Mühlbach coming from the right to form the Steinsfelder Mühlbach.
