In Theodor Fontane's 'Wanderungen durch die Mark Brandenburg' we find lovingly written passages about the medieval Cistercian nunnery in Lindow. Likewise, the later women's convent was the inspiration for his last great old age novel 'Der Stechlin' - written in the years 1895-97 for the Wutz monastery there - alias Lindow.
