Along with St. Raphael (Hartmannshofen), Peter and Paul (Kirchtrudering) and Holy Blood (Bogenhausen), it is one of four churches that Hans Döllgast was able to build in Munich before the Second World War. The Catholic parish church of St. Heinrich was built in 1934/35. After severe damage in the Second World War (1943), the church was restored by the same architect from 1949 to 1951.
Since 1984, the choir has been lined with a mosaic by the artist Christian Wolf, which shows Christ sitting in front of the globe with Saint Henry and Saint Kunigunde. In the chancel is a bust of the Jesuit priest Rupert Mayer, who opposed National Socialism early on and was therefore repeatedly imprisoned, most recently in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp. The sculptor Michael Veit created the bronze Stations of the Cross, which were inaugurated in 1995 and are dedicated to the memory of Christian martyrs of the Nazi regime.
