Step into Derrycunnihy Nature Reserve on the boardwalk. This makes for an novel hike in the lush green woodland and a great way to keep your feet dry.

      October 17, 2024

The boardwalk in the Derrycunnihy Nature Reserve offers you a special kind of hiking - almost like a floating path through the lush, green landscape. When you're out and about here, you can look forward to a relaxed hike where you elegantly avoid the wetlands and your feet stay dry, even when the ground around you is boggy and wet.

The boardwalk takes you through dense forests, past tall grasses and gnarled trees, some of which lean over the path. What immediately caught my eye: the quiet. You hear nothing except the rustling of the wind in the leaves and the occasional burbling of a small stream in the distance. The boardwalk not only offers you comfort, but also a completely new perspective on the landscape. It almost feels like you're floating lightly through the nature reserve.

Even though the boardwalk is easy to walk on in most places, sturdy shoes are a good idea to have a secure footing. The wood can be slippery in places, especially when it's wet. And keep your eyes open - especially in the morning hours, you may come across shy animals hanging around the edge of the walkway.

For me, this hike was a great mix of relaxation and adventure. The narrow path and the natural surroundings create a special atmosphere that immerses you in Ireland's green wilderness.
