The Buchhorn Fountain commemorates the founding of the city of Friedrichshafen, which emerged in 1811 from the Free Imperial City of Buchhorn and the village and monastery of Hofen. In addition to numerous references to the city's history, the fountain also references two important local companies: an engine block for MTU (now Tognum) and a cornucopia of gears for ZF.
